Dear Monique,

31-12-5

31 days (max) in a month. 12 months in a year. The fifth month of the year is May, which is the last full month I got to spend with you before I left at the beginning of June last year. I’m also pretty sure we’ve had 5 different bus adventures, hehe. Isn’t my locker combination so symbolic? You have a lock on my heart and you’re always going to be one of my best friends + sisters, no matter what. Despite the distance and the plus 3 hours time zone, I’m here for you! I am so proud of you and the all hard work that you do; I wish I was in Vancouver in person to shower you with hugs and lunch dates! You’re going to go so far (outer space far!) in the future and I know all of your dreams are going to come true. Take time to relax and do some things for random fun; it’s too easy to get carried away by goals and ambitions. No one else can stop you from believing in yourself except you – so “just keep swimming, just keep swimming” (quote Dorothy, Finding Nemo) – all the icky feelings will eventually fade.  Someone wise once wrote me,

“From watching you, I have realized that being ‘you’ as you is sometimes harder than trying to be like others. Being yourself involves analyzing who you truly are and presenting that without over trying.”

And the same girl who wrote those words to me is the same girl who’s living those words today, encountering the obstacles that come along the way. No one has life figured out, so let’s walk arm in arm (off the path!) in this crazy journey together. I’ve got your back, and you’ve always had mine ♥

Don’t forget we’re standing under the same sky and wishing on the same stars!

I love you very muchly.
